Question

Ion channels are integral membrane proteins composed of several subunits. Ion channels can be constructed as hetero-oligomers from distinct subunits (left), as homo-oligomers from a single type of subunit (middle), or from a single polypeptide chain organized into repeating motifs, where each motif functions as the equivalent of one subunit (right). In addition to one or more a-subunits that form a central pore, some channels contain auxiliary subunits ((J or y) that modulate the gating of the pore.

Explanation / Answer

Basically an orgnised protien channels are called GAP JUNCTION which are collectively plays role in ions and small molecule exchange. This chennales has two connexons, each of them would be in one cell membrane and connetcs each other and forms continueous channel.

SO this is simply a junction which fills the gap between two cells and connects them for exchange of ions and molecules selectively.
