Explanation / Answer
Delta T = Kf * m , where m is molality ( moles of solute perkg of solvent)
Our m = delta T / Kf = 21.5 m
21.5 m = moles of ethylene glycol / 1 kg of water
We know that 1 kg of water = 1 L of water by the given density( 1 gram per milliliter) . Also, 1 Liter equals 1.06 quarts,so
21.5 m = moles of ethylene glycol / 1.06 L of water
From here we get 22.7956 moles of ethylene glycol
MW of ethylene glycol is 62, so mass of ethylene glycol is1413 grams.
Using density 1.11 g/ml, we get the volume of ethylene glycolto be 1273 ml, or 1.273 L.
Multilplying that by 1.06, we get 1.349 quarts of ethyleneglycol for every quart of water. Delta T = Kf * m , where m is molality ( moles of solute perkg of solvent)
