Question
1. Arrange the following atoms in order of increasingionization energy: lithium, oxygen, magnesium, strontium, chlorine, and tellurium. Explain your order.? 2. Look at your model. Why do you think that we say theproperties of the periodic table are "periodic"? 3. Some of the elements show exceptions to the trends. Lock at your model and select an element that seems to have anunusual value for one of these properties. Try to explain whythis happens by writing the electron configuration for this elementand looking for a definite change from the element before it. 1. 1) The order of increasing ionizationenergy : lithium < strontium < magnesium < tellurium< chlorine < oxygen . Explanation: we know that when wemove from top to bottom in the group of the periodic tablegradually the ionization energy decreases. In the same mannerwe can go across the period left to right the ionization energygradually increases. Based on that the givenatoms are arrenged in the increasing order of their ionizationenergy. 2) The modern periodic table says that the physical andchemical prorerties of elements are depended on their electronicconfigurations . so the elements are arrenged in the periodic tablethose are having similar outer electronic configurations put them as a group of elements . like that all the elementsarrenged in different groups based on their electronicconfigurations. Hence the elements shown their chemical propertiesaccording to periodicity in the periodic table. 3) some of exeptional cases are there in theperiodic table that is due to the different causes of theelement. example : Nitrogen actually nitrogen has beingless ionization energy than oxygen according to periodic property. But here nitrogen has greater ionization energy than oxygen why itis happend due to the" half fillid orbitalelectrons " present in the nitrogen atom . There fore it has greater ionization energy thanoxygen.Related Questions
