Question

This is a question from my lab manual. Which of these solventswould be the best choice to extract a polar organic compound froman aqueous solution? acetonitrile chloroform dimethylformamide hexane Explain why the other solvents are less desirable than thesolvent that is chosen. I was thinking chloroform or hexane since they are nonpolarand would not react with the aqueous solution so would thereforeform two separate layer, but I wasn't sure if this wascorrect. Explanation / Answer

Chloroform & hexane both are non - polar. So,these are usedfor the extraction of polar organic compound from an aqueoussolution.Since like dissoive like.AmongChloroform & hexane ,hexane is the best solvent because ofits non-polarity.Chloroform has a litte polar nature.
