Question
So I got a purple violet looking solid in my ochem lab and was toldto identify it. From the solubility test I found it was either aweak carboxylic acid, enol, phenol, or a sulfonamide. The ferricion test came out negative. I tried the Bromine water test but mysolid would not dissove in water so i did it in ehtnaol aftercheking the ph it was neutral and after adding the bromine reagentit became acidic with no precipitate but a color change of thesolution to a white solution.Any idea on what it might be? I thought it could be a stericallyhindred phenol but not sure. any suggestions?
