Question

Mark is a technician in a blood bank at a local hospital. It is required that everyone who works with human blood products be vaccinated against hepatitis B virus. Following his vaccination it was found that Mark was not responsive. As Mark's physician you decide to investigate into Mark’s family medical history. You find out that both of Mark parents worked for the American Red -Cross when Mark was conceived. As Red Cross workers, Mark parents had to be vaccinated against hepatitis B virus. The vaccine used was a live attenuated virus.

Why does mark have no b cells to respond. please explain in detail

Explanation / Answer

The B cell later as plasma cell produces the antibodies. Here in case parents had a live attunated vaccine. therefor as chance they had produced the anirbodies against the hepatitis B which remians in them and while pregnany that specific antibodies to hepatitis had crossed oever placenta to the baby.

One thing is importan tto know here that neonates born to mothers with hepatitis B virus infection mount an excellent protective immune response to hepatitis B vaccine given at birth, even without additional use of hepatitis B virus-specific immunoglobulin.

Coming to question that mark did not respond to the vaccine could be due to presence of antibodies in him which neutralized the vaccine effect when given. I feel this would be the best poosible reason for mark to not respond the vaccine due he was having the antibodies to hepatitis provided by his monther at time of birth which had strong responce to its cointer part.
