I have just started learning Organic Chemistry, and I amalready in major trouble. I have to pass this class in order toproceed in my Pre-Nursing Major, but I cannot even understand thebasics! Our first take home worksheet is due this Tuesday, February3, 2009. It consists of 2 questions, but the first one is the mosttrouble for me. 1) Show (write out the complete reaction) two ways to make2-chloro-3-methylpentane. Which scheme would you choose? On this question, I understand how to show the condensedstructural formula of the alkane, I just do not know how to writeout the complete reaction of it. I also do not understand what itmeans by "scheme." I am not asking you to answer it for me, but to explainwhat exactly it is asking for and maybe some practice problemsthat are similar so that I may be able to have a grasp on whatneeds to be answered. The question is asking for two mechanisms in which2-chloro-3methylpentane can be produced. Of the 2 mechanisms that you have produced, they want you tochoose 1 mechanism that you would choose to use. For example, I would say 3-methyl-2-pentene reacting with HClwould produce 2-chloro-3-methylpentane.
