Question
Your company currently hosts a vast array of applications in a local data center, but cost cutting measures within the organization are forcing them to reevaluate this practice. The data center, in its current incarnation, is no longer fiscally feasible, and downsizing both the hardware and staff will leave it unequipped to host its current portfolio of applications. An edict has arrived from the Chief Technology Officer: It's time to move to the cloud.
The executive team needs to better understand which applications are good candidates to migrate to a cloud-based service and which need to remain in the local, soon-to-be-smaller data center. They have asked you to write a 2–3 page report that:
Explains the major benefits and risks of cloud computing.
Makes recommendations based on lessons learned from other companies that sought to make the same transition
Lists five applications used by an organization with which you are familiar. Explain whether each is suitable for cloud computing; justify your answers by specifying the characteristics of the application that make it particularly suited or unsuited for cloud delivery.
Explanation / Answer
Yes maintaining all database and infrastructure with us a major task and it is always better to use cloud computing
so that they wll manintain both infrastrucurte and database.
If we want to only software related then we can use SAAS ( software as a platform)
or if we want any platform then we can use PAAS( platform as a service)
As nore advantages are there...inspite few drwabacks also..
Advabtages:
-----------
1) now we can avoid costly systems...for some of the applications like windows are
costly to purchase...if we want to work with them only few days..then rather than
purchasing entire produc we can take lease using cloudcomputing with full access and licenced version and it is very cheap.
2)We can access cloud computing any where in globe....if we restrict our hardware to one place then every time we have to work
at same place where in cloud computing we can work at anywhere.
3)Reduce software costs mostly snd they provide cheaply using cloud computing.
4) There is no more need to install applications al over time..since it is already cooked food.
5) They provide servers and databases space with low cist and with high performance...
Maintainence also included. So no more headache to maintain properly.
6) Data centralization....if we want to access same data between so many stations
then this clud computing is very good choice..At a time we can control same servers by different hosts
who having access to operate them.
7) Data we stored in servers will also store in separate serers so that when accidently any data is changed we can get back that copy using
back up copy
8) We have accessto share the data to different hosts.
9) Security provided is so defendable...they use very complexity security algorithms so that
almost 99% safe.
10) They provide minimum space free...for example outlook provide free 4 GB space.
11) we can test the data instanlty as it can be shared to tester at any time and place.
Now we will discuss disadvantages:
------------------------------------
1) Always we will have internet connection.
2) it will have low bandwidth.
3) Since every people uses that cloud storage same time then channel medium may get disturbance
and quality may reduce.
4) As in any computer science world..security providing is not possible to provide 100 %
5) Aggrements are non-negotiable.
6) For samll applications cost factor is more....
7) the data stored in large hard disks...the will provide seaprate hard disk for you...so all users data stored in single drive..or series of drives.
8) Some times we may not have full maintainance supprt.
9) Some times incompatibility issues occurs.
10) Flexibility also loss.
------------------------------------------------
Major applications are:
1) Online e-store ( Amazon): Since they have to maintain huge data and provide well interaction
with all customers at every corner. So they must have huge database and servers to maintain
where they didnt to be suposed to maintain such data. So cloud computing is better option.
2)Google Gmail like email service... In emailapplication storing all mails and atatachments needs
cloud computing to be synchronised with all servers.
3) movie databases.... (youtube) In many applications where w can download or listen to songs
are stored in cloud computing to avoid maintaining such huge database servers.
4) small scale industries uses windows operating systems where they didnt want to purchase since they are high in price
( OS + MS office). so cloud computing provide these softwares and platform with low cost.
5) All nations government uses cloud computing to store data and predict weather forecasting data.Since more analysing is needed with lage data continously.
