Question
Give one (1) example of a class B IPv4 network. Next, imagine that you want to divide your example into subnets, each with 126 hosts. Identify the subnet mask that you would use and the number of networks that would be available. Provide a rationale for your chosen mask. Explain the steps you took to create the subnets.
Assess the need for subnetting in an organization with which you are familiar. Determine whether or not you would recommend subnetting for such an organization. Provide a rationale for your response.
Explanation / Answer
B class IP addresses ranges from 128.0.0.0 to 191.255.255.255.
Let us say we have a ip address of 132.64.34.34
With this we need to use a mask of 255.255.255.128
WIth this mask we will have 126 hosts per subnet and in total we will have 510 subnets.
The logic is that with this subnet we can have a maximum of 126 hosts which will fullfill our requirement. If we want more than we would have chosen 255.255.255.0 as subnet giving a maximum 254 hosts per subnet and 254 subnets.
