You have just been hired to work in a brand new thrift shop. This thrift shop sells secondhand clothes and household goods. You know the value of information systems and want to convince the owner (who knows only how to manage a thrift shop) that it can help the business. List at least four specific strategies (not technologies) involving the business use of information systems so that the thrift shop may gain a competitive edge. Also, for each strategy, give an illustrative IT technology example that can apply to the thrift shop.

Explanation / Answer

First strategy is selecting good theme

Insteading of selling all goods..better to sell the goods which are required on that location. Choose the best theme so that every one easily understand what the actual shop meant to sell. Being known for theme...the goods that we are selling must be high end wear to attract customers easily. To compare with strategy..consider microsoft product their theme is windows which means every thing is available as widows is opened, so that every one can understand that windows provide everything on desktop that we need.

Good Location

This Strategy is very very important since we are running shop to make sales lot and earn profits. This will be done by increasing sales. So, the people a lot sales will be more. So we have to establish shop in good location.

For example If we establish a IT company far from city...then neither of clients or employees shows interest to work with this company.

Be Selective

The items that we placed in store must be selective. If we maintain good quality then customers automatically shows interest to purchase goods from shop. Then we can increase / decrease rates whenever we want. This could be happen if goods are special from others shops. Give as many as offers to increase sales and increase people visits. In terms of IT technology the product or application that we purchase must be good enough to met our requirements.

Maintaining Good Relationships

Maintaining good relationship is major factor so that they revisit shop and also bring their relatives or neighbours. Some times we have to give products as low as possible to attract customers. Then long live raltionship maintains. In terms of It technology....consider todays mobile apps, they are providing a great discounts on first time although it may give loss to them. This is to maintain relationship.
