Question
According to Classless InterDomain Routing, the remaining IP addresses are allocated in variable-sized blocks, without regard to the classes. However, the starting address must fall on the boundary of the block size allocated. Assuming that a large number of consecutive IP address are available starting at 194.24.0.0. Suppose that three organizations, A, B, and C, request 4000, 1000, and 2000 addresses, respectively, and in that order. For each of these, give the first IP address assigned, the last IP address assigned, both must be in dotted decimal form, and the mask in the w.x.y.z/s notation.
Explanation / Answer
194.24.0.0
so given for three organizations we have to allocate 4000 1000 2000 address A,B and C respectively.
1)For A we have to allocate 4000 address which means 2^12 = 4096 addresses
start address = 194.24.0.0
mask=32-12=20
they need 2^12 ----.----.00001111.11111111 -->
last address 194.24.15.255/20
2)For B given 1000 address 2^10
so starting address 194.24.15.0
mask = 32-10=22
they need 2^10 ------.-----.00111111.11111111
last address 194.24.63.0/22
3)For C 2000 address needed..that is 2^11
so first ip address 194.24.63.0
mask is 32-11 = 21
they need 2^11 ----.00001101.11111111.11111111
last address is 194.25.0.0/21
