Question

chlamydomonas life cycle Is it right? Is this an alternation of generations life cycle? 2. For most of its life cycle, Chlamydomonas exists as a free-living haploid cell.It reproduces by mitosis. During adverse environmental conditions, the cells produce neary identical gametes. The gametes of two different mating strains join to form a diploid zygote which survives through the deteriorating conditions. When conditions improve, the zygote undergoes meiosis to produce haploid spores. The spores germinate to form new cells. Based on the description above, make a diagram of the Chlamydomonas life cycle. (We've gotten you started...) e s nitusis 98," Spores DO Meiosis- HAPLOID Ferilization --Fertilization-- DIPLOID Zygospore 249 Is this an alternation of generations life cycle, Explain.

Explanation / Answer

Yes it is an alteration of the generation,it has the sexual and asexual lifecycle .In sexual lifecycle parents cell divide mitotically into 32 daughter cells ,gamates of different sexs meet ,flagellar adhesion between the gamates of the different mating types ,gamates are released forming the mating structures .gamates fuse to form ZYGOTE [2n} , develop a thick wall and becomes zygospore ,which undergoes meiosis to form the zoo spores [1n]. This is an diplotic stage .

these zoospores are released into the parents cell undergoes deflagellation ,cytoplasam divides longitudanally into 4 usually cells .

so there will be one cell with dipliod stage and other cell with hapliod stage .
