Question

Furthermore, you conducted the experiment using Styrofoam coffee cups because of their effective insulation capabilities. Therefore, you were able to accurately measure the molar enthalpy change of the acid-base reaction. However, the acid-base neutralization reaction in our experiment has a 1:1 mole ratio between the acid (HCl) and the base (NaOH). However, let us for a moment hypothesize about the effects of using KOH instead of NaOH as your base. Then we must ask, would the values for the energy densities of HCl and KOH be the same as if we used HCl and NaOH in the experiment? Why or why not? give answer and also a mathematical explenation please

Explanation / Answer

Absolutely no because heat released after the reaction depends on energy required to ionise acid and base.If both are strong more energy is released as less energy is needed to iionize them

Compared to NaOH,KOH is weaker base So more energy is needed to ionise it,so less energy is released in reaction with KOH
