Question
Waxy endosperm (a) shrunken endosperm (b) & yellow seeds (c) are three recessive genes that are linked in corn plants on chromosome 5. Two corn plants (true breeding for these genes) are crossed. The F1 progeny are all wild type. One of these F1 progeny is crossed to a test plant, & the following progeny are produced:
Wild type = 1499 b c= 97
a b c =1537 c=3485
b=291 a c=274
a b=3492 a=85
(A)What is the genotype of each parent? (B) What is the order of these genes on Chromosome 5? (C) Determine the distances between these loci. (D) Determine the Coefficient of coinicidence & Interference value among these genes. (E) What does this Interference value suggest?
Explanation / Answer
A) the genotype of each parent is +++
B) Total number of offspring =10760
Frequency of world type=1499/10760 = 0.139
Frequency of a = 1537+3492+274+85= 5388/10760= 0.50
Frequency of b=1537+291+3492+97= 5417/10760=0.503
Frequency of c= 1537+97+3485+274=5393/10760=0.501
The order of genes on chromosome 5 is a,c and b
C) Distances between loci of a and b = 0.503- 0.50 = 0.03
Distance between b and c = 0.503-0.501=0.02
Distance between a and c = 0.501-0.50=0.01
D) No double recombinats
E) NO double recombinant hence no interference occur
since the distances btween the loci are low are negeligible recombination does not occur.
