Question
This reaction was monitored as a function of time: 2A ? 3B + 4C A plot of ln[A] on the y-axis versus time t on the x-axis yields a straight line with a slope of ?0.123 s?1. (a) What is the value of the rate constant (k) for this reaction? Points will be deducted if you do not include the correct sign and units of the rate constant. (b) Determine the half-life for this reaction in units of seconds. (c) If the initial concentration of A is 0.250 M, what is the concentration of A after 2.25 s? Can you please show how to do this, not just the answer. Thanks!Explanation / Answer
since plot of ln[A] vs time gave staright line , order of reaction =1 ,(a) rate const k = slope = 0.123 s-1 , (b) half life t1/2 = 0.693/k = 0.693/0.123 = 5.634 sec , (c) k = 1/(t) ln( a/a-x) , a= 0.25 , then 0.123 = ( 1/2.25) ln( 0.25/a-x) , a-x = conc of A left after 2.25 sec = 0.1896 M
