Question
8. How can evolution explain the formation of complex structures such as the eye or the flagella motor?
9. What causes variation in a species? To put this another way: all humans have the same genes, yet we do not look alike. What is the reason fro the phenotypic differences between individuals of the same species? What is genetic recombination?
10. What are the dangers of small populations of a species from a genetic and evolutionary standpoint? What is the bottleneck effect?
11. How does speciation occur? What is the importance of geographic isolation? How is this illustrated in the Galapagos?
12. What is Darwinian Medicine and how does it help us better understand medical conditions?
Explanation / Answer
8. The formation of eye or flagellar motor requires a complex of protein to arrange itself in proper orientation. Evolutionists claim that it was initially not this complex it would have just been to solve the simple purpose, through evolution it has added so many components to form the existing complex structure.
9. Variation is caused due to random mating of species where genes with promising characters are transferred to offspring which brings changes and variation. The variation does not involve large segment of DNA, it happens only with small desirable change.
10. Smaller the population results in lesser variation which might lead to extinction of the species due to insufficient variation necessary. The bottle neck effect is the reduction in population size due to environmental events such as floods, earthquakes etc.,
11. Speciation also called as reproductive isolation happens as a by-product of accumulated genetic changes which led to two previously inbreeding population of the same species. When the population is separated by flood into two different geographical areas the two inbreeding population survive to the new environment which alter its genetic make up for survival hence results in speciation.
12. It is application of modern evolutionary theory which helps to understand disease. Medical conditions occurs due to various factors such as their food habits which involves diet and exercise, cleanliness etc. Based on better understanding of the person treatment and cause for the disease can be identified effectively.
