Question
Balance equation. What is the percent yield if 122 grams of SiO2 are made from 246 g of Cr2O3 by the following equation? Si(s) + Cr2O3(s) - - - - > SiO2(s) + Cr(l) *please show how your work, I am not sure exactly where in my problem solving where I messed up.Explanation / Answer
3Si(s) +2 Cr2O3(s) - - - - > 3SiO2(s) + 4Cr(l) molecular mass of Cr2O3=152g molecular mass of SiO2=60 from equation, 152x2 g of Cr2O3 forms 3x60 g of SiO2 So 246g of Cr2O3 should form ----(3x60x246)/(152x2) =145.65g of SiO2 but here we get only 122g of SiO2..so pecentage yield= 122x100/145.65 =83.75 %
