Question
Write nuclear equations for electron capture by the following radioisotopes. 1. 62/30 Zn 2. 110/50 Sn 3. 40/19 KExplanation / Answer
hey here is an example of your type of problem....:):):) Carbon Alpha Decay: 14/6 C -> 10/4 Be + a Carbon Beta Decay: 14/6 C -> 14/7 N + ß Note, that a (alpha) is a 4/2 H atom. In alpha decay, the atoms mass number (top number) is reduced by 4 and it's atomic number (bottom number) is reduced by two. It has a 2+ charge with 2 protons and 2 neutrons. In beta decay, the atoms mass number (top) is unaltered, but the atomic number (bottom) is added by one. A beta particle is an electron with a 1- charge.
