Not sure if I did this right, but could I get some help please.

every day the exam is late. Questions are worth 10 points each u itwas passed out. Five points will be deducted for 1 ) Both Drasephila and humans have an XY sex determination, of sex determination each species uses is different. Please describe, in similarities and differences in both the Drosophils and hum yet the actual mechanism Please describe, in detail, the an mechanisms of sex determination 2) A common type of recessive red-green color blindness in humans is X -linked a) Can two color blind parents produce a normal son and a normal daughter Please explain your answer b) Can two normal parents produce a color-blind son and a color blind daughter? Please explain your answer c) Can a color blind woman have a color blind father or a color blind mother Please explain your answer. 3) Dragons have green, bronze, or green-bronze scales. Examine the results of the following crosses: Parents green x bronze green x green green-bronze x green-bronze Offspring all green ¾ green; 14 bronze all green-bronze green, ¼ bronze, ¼ green-bronze.

Explanation / Answer

1. In humans sex determination mediated by Y-chromosome. But in drosphila Y-chromosome don't confers maleness but it encodes the genes require to make sperm. Here, the sex is determined by the ratio between X-chromosomes to autosomes (X:A). Typically, drosophila sex determine by the 3 major genes which include sex-lethal (sxl), sisterless, and deadpan. Of which, the deadpan is an autosomal gene that inhibits sex-lethal, in contrst, sisterless which usually present on X-chromosome inhibits the deadpan. Inhibition of leads to male and its transcription leads to female.

2a. Both parents with color bindness cannot produce normal son or daughter

xY x xx (parents crossed)

xx xx xY xY (all progeny is affected; female at recessive homozygous and male at hemizygous state)

2b. Two normal parents i.e Xx x XY (Here, female is heterozygous; carrier but normal) cross can produce color blind son but not daughter, see below

XX Xx XY xY (one son is affected and one daughter is carrier but normal)

2c. Color blind woman would have color blind father but her mother would be carrier and normal, see below

Xx x xY (parents)

Xx xx XY xY (see parents that mother is carrier but normal and father is affected)
