Question
Suppose that the heritability of arm length is 0.75 in a population consisting of equal numbers of three subsets of sisters: pairs of monozygotic twins (genetically identical twins), pairs of dizygotic twins (sisters developed in the same womb and born at about the same time), and pairs of sisters one year apart in age from the same parents. Arm length was determined at 16 years of age for all individuals. All pairs of sisters have no additional siblings in the family, and all grew up in the same suburban neighborhood. Would you expect the heritability of arm length within each of the three groups be different from 0.75? Why or why not? If so, which group will have the highest and which group will have the lowest value? detail your reasoning.
Explanation / Answer
we can not predict arm length in any condition but say somthing about the character behaviour
In monozygotic twins since they have identical genetic make up as well as they are facing similar environmental factor so very little chace for variation among both.
In dizygotic twins since they have different genetic make up so inspite of that under similar environmenatal condition they can show variation in character like arm length.
but in case of pair of sister which have one years age gap, they shows not only different different genetic make up but also facing different environmental condition so greater chance of character variations like arm length
