Question

Is there anyway you can help me understand differences in eyeballing acids and in a more concise way? Ive asked this question on here and their response has to do with properties. I would like to figure out how to identify a substance by looking at its molecular formula. For example all metals when reacted with spectator ions are considered acids? I dont feel like setting up the valence electron configuration is the only way to determine what an acid is...or is it? Are there steps to follow? For example all Bases have OH or N in them...and LiCl is neutral why? Because it has a Li and Cl-?

Explanation / Answer

capacity to donate or earn electrons seems to be good to decide about bases and acids respectively i m sure it will clear ur doubts. for eg. N has a lone pair to donate to others, so it forms a good base. while H+ ion has tendency to accept the electrons from other, so its an acid.
