Question
Please note: I already know the answers for Part A, and B. Just need help with answering C.
Question:On a newly discovered island in the south pacific. A geneticist found two distinct pure breeding populations of frogs:
Strain 1: the frogs have purple eyes and croak by uttering rib-it, rib-it (utterers)
Strain 2: the frogs have green eyes and croak by muttering knee-deep, knee-deep (mutterers)
She mates frogs from the two lines producing f1 frogs that were all utterers with blue eyes. A large f2 generation then yielded the following ratio:
27/64 blue , utterers
12/64 green, utterers
9/64 blue, mutterers
9/64 purple, utterers
4/64 green, mutterers
3/64 purple,mutterers
A.) how many total gene pairs are involved in the inheritance of both eye color and croaking?
There would be a total of 3 gene pairs, two of which would represent the inheritance of eye color, and one gene pair would represent the inheritance of vocalization.
B.) of these, how many control eye colorand how many control croaking? As previously mentioned there would be a total of 2 gene pair or 4 alleles for the control of eye color. Therefore croaking (vocalization) would be a total of 1 gene pair or 2 alleles that would be in control.
c.) after many years the same geneticist isolates true breeding lines of all the 6 f2 phenotypes. Give the f1 and f2 phenotypic ratios of a cross between a blue mutterer and a purple utterer.
Explanation / Answer
blue mutterer B/ M/ purple utterer bbmm then F1 wll produce BM and bm, the ratio of F1 BbMm with blue mutterer .
In F2 generation, The ratio will be 9= blue mutterer, 3 purplemutterer, 1purple utterer,3blue utterer
