Question
I've tried this problem several times, but I keep getting the mole fraction part wrong.
Here's what I know or was able to calculate:
- water: 400.0 g, 18.02 g/mol, 22.19755827 moles
-KI: 5.39 g, 166 g/mol, 0.0324988 moles
I got 0.0015 as the answer, and that's incorrect. So something above must be wrong. Any help would be appreciated.
Be sure to answer all parts. What are the mole fraction and the mass percent of a solution made by dissolving 5.39 g of KI in 0.400 L of water (d= 1.00 g/mL)? mole fraction KI [1.33 ass % KIExplanation / Answer
Moles of KI = 5.39 g × 1 mol /166 g = 0.0324698 moles KI
Moles of H2O = 0.400 L × 1000 mL/ L × 1g/mL × 1mol / 18g = 22.22 moles of H2O
Mole fraction of KI = 0.03246/22.27 =0.00145
Mole fraction of H2O = 22.22/22.27 =0.989
