Question
Problem 2 (KJ1042 and TMT4276) being given by: log Yp,--0.32(1-Xpb)2 a) Write the corresponding equation for the variation of Ysn with composition Xpb 0.5 which is b) If l mole of lead at 25°C is added to a large quantity of liquid alloy of composition X,-0.5 at thermostated at 473°C 473°C: i. Calculate the heat flow from the thermostat into the liquid alloy. Calculate the entropy increase in the surroundings resulting from the process. ii. iii. Calculate the aps in the XPb 0.5 alloy at 746 K and 1000 K. Given: Cppb 23.56 +9.75 103 .T (J/mol K) Cp 32.43 -3.10 103 T (J/mol K) AHmelting (PD) = 4 810 JExplanation / Answer
a) Since, XPb = 0.5, XSn should be exactly 0.5.
Therefore, the expression for the XSn can also be written in the same way as that of XPb.
i.e. Log XSn = -0.32 (XSn)2 ..... equation 1
Since XPb+ XSn = 1, i.e. XSn = 1 - XPb
From equation 1, XSn = 10-0.32 (XSn)2
