A block of copper of unknown mass has an initial temperature of 65.4°C. It is immersed in a beaker containing 95.7g H20 at 22.7°C. Once the heat transfer is complete, the temperature of the water and the block is 24.2°C-What is the mass if the copper block? Things to consider CuC 0.385 Jig°C H20 Cs = 4.184 J/g°C O Type here to search ^ ENG 10:54AM 11/27/2017

Explanation / Answer

The heat released by the block of copper will be equal to the heat gained by the water

So using the formula Q = m . c. Delta T

we get :

mCu x 0.385 x (24.2 - 65.4 ) = - 95.7 x 4.184 x (24.2 - 22.7)

mCu = 37.86 grams

So the mass of copper block will be 37.86 grams
