Question
I got this picture from another question. I just need to ask why do I devide Kp1 by Kp2 to get Kp3 but not multiply? In the Sample Exercise I was supposed to multiply Kc1 by Kc2 to get Kc3. Is it just because in the sample excercise I was working with consentration (Kc) and in practice excersie with pressure (Kp) or is the multiplication and division difference because of something else? Thank you!
PRACTICE EXERCISE Given that, at 700 K, Kp-54.0 for the reaction H2 (g) + 12(g)--2 HUg) and K,-1.04 × 10-4 for the re- action N2(g) + 3 H2(g) = 2 NH3(g), determine the value of Kp for the reaction 2 NH3(g) + 3 12(g) ; 6 HI(g) + N2(g) at 700 K.Explanation / Answer
the 3rd reaction can be written as:
3rd reaction = 3*1st reaction -1*2nd reaction
So,
Kp3 = Kp1^3 / Kp2
= (54.0)^3/(1.04*10^-4)
= 1.51*10^9
Answer: 1.51*10^9
