Question

Thanks very much Problem 2 A 15 foot chain is hanging from a winch 15 feet above the ground level. Find the work done by the winch in winding up at constant speed the entire chain with a 500 lb attached to it if the chain weighs 3 lbs/ft (A See Example 4 page 479 in your book) Problem 3 A cylindrical tank 4 meters high with a radius of2 meters is buried so that the top of the tank is 1 meter below ground level. How much work is done in pumping a full tank of water up to the ground level if the water weighs 9800 Newton per cubic meter? (See Example 5 page 480 in your book) Problem 4 A container is in the shape of water trough with equilateral triangles of sides 2 ft located at the vertical ends. If the trough contains a chemical that weighs 75 lbs cubic foot, find the fluid force at one vertical end.

Explanation / Answer

2) work done = (500+45) * 32.174 * 7.5

                         =   131511.225    foot-pound force

3)   work done = 50.27*9800 * 2.5

                         =   1231615 J

4)    Fluid force = 2.67 * 75 *32.174

                          = 6442.84    pound force
