Question
I have a simple project due soon and I need your help. I recorded a slow motion video of my brother playing on a drum pad with two sticks with a stopwatch in the background. Given: he started at exaclty 5.07 seconds and ended at 14.78 seconds, and we know that the total amount of hits was 64. I'm trying to think of a good way I could use math to solve something. I was thinking about solving for either the velocity of how fast he was hitting or Beats per second. Can you solve either please? Show work for credit. I think the distance between the stick hitting the pad and the stick at the maximum raised height is 12 inches. I have to present this video with a question that I work through on the board so the class can solve it and I explain it. I need it by 4:45.
Explanation / Answer
The total time elapsed during playing on a drum pad by yor brother,
t = 14.78 s - 5.07 s = 9.71 s
The total distance travelled by stick for 1 round of druming,
d = 2*(Distance between topmost and loswest position) = 2*12 = 24 inches
Since the total no of rounds of drumming, n = 64
So, the total distance travelled by stick in the whole process,
D = n*d = 64*24 = 1536 inches
The speed of the drum stick during this process,
v = D / t = 1536 / 9.71 = 158.19 inches/s = 158.19*0.0254 m/s = 4.02 m/s
