Question
O. 7) The NMR data for the compound shown is: 7.2 (doublet), 6.8 (doublet), 6.4 (doublet). 6.1 (multiptet), 3,8 (singlet), 1.8 (doublet) a) The peak at which chemical shift is for the proton(6) corresponding to the HC=CH-Me? A. 6,4 B. 6,1 C. 3.8 D. 1,8) b) The peak at which chemical shift is for the proton(s) corresponding to the OMe group? A. 6,4 B, 6.1 C. 3.8 D, 1.8 c) The doublat at which chemical shift is for the aromatic proton(s) next to the HC-CH-Me? A. 7.2 (B: 6.8 C. 6.4 D. 1.8 d) The doublet at which chemical shift is for the aromatio proton(s) next to the OMe group? (B, 6,8 C. 6,4 D. 1.8Explanation / Answer
(c) The value is 7.2 ppm and for (d) the value is 6.8. It is because OMe group is electron donating in nature which causes shielding of the aryl protons as in the case (d) for which they appear in the high field region 6.8. But for (c) this is not the case and it is coming in the normal aryl region 7.2 ppm in (c).
