The balanced chemical equation for the reaction of Al with a mineral acid (say HCl) is given as
2 Al (s) + 6 HCl (aq) --------> AlCl3 (aq) + 3 H2 (g)
As per the balanced stoichiometric equation,
2 mole Al = 3 mole H2.
As per the experiment, we have 0.0065 mol H2; therefore, mol(s) of Al = (0.0065 mol H2)*(2 mol Al/3 mol H2) = 0.00433 mol.
Atomic mass of Al = 26.9815 g/mol.
Mass of Al corresponding to 0.00433 mol Al = (0.00433 mol)*(26.9815 g/mol) = 0.1168 g.
Mass percent Al in the alloy = (mass of Al)/(mass of alloy)*100% = (0.1168 g)/(0.159 g)*100% = 73.459% 73.46% (ans).
