Question
CHM 111 Laboratory Experiment Post-L.aboratory Questions: between the first and second heating, a third heating is required. Explain why. If the difference in masses of the crucible, cover and product is greater than 0.01 g. 2. Give two sources of error. Be specific, do not simple say "human or instrumental error" 3. The concept learned in this exercise may be applied to determining the formula of a hydrate. Calculate the ratio of moles of water to moles of the anhydrous salt. When 2.500 g of BaClz xH O was heated, the water of hydration was evaporated off, leaving behind 2.130 g of anhydrous barium chloride. What is the formula of the hydrate? 123Explanation / Answer
we know that
the mass of crucible , cover and product should be heated till we do not get a constant mass for the last two heating this is because it shows that now there will be no change in the mass due to heating as there will be no water or solvent
therefore
When difference of the mass of crucible , cover and product between first two heating is 0.01 g this shows that there can be still some water or solvent therefore 3rd heating is required to get a constant mass for 2nd and 3rd heating.
