Ans 1 : The volume is recorded when the height of column of water inside the graduated cylinder is the same as the liquid level in the trough because at this time the pressure inside the cylinder is same as that of the atmospheric pressure.

If the height of water is less or more than the liquid level in trough , it indicates that the two pressures , inside and outside does not equalise.
