Question
A thru D Write out the equation for heat that relates heat to mass of a fuel and clearly label all the variables. 1. A student performed a trial identical to the one outlined in the procedure and gathered the following data: eandle weight before burning 12.15 g, candle after burning for 10 min 10.4 g, max temperature of water 72.5 C, minimum temp of water 27.7 C, mass of water 201 grams, a) How much wax was burned in the experiment? 2. b) What was the T for the water? e) How much heat was absorbed by the water? q meAT,c 4.18 j/g C d) What is the energy per gram for the wax used in the eandle above, energy divided by grams of candle burned How long does the temperature probe need to be suspended in the water before a reading is taken? Can the temperature probe touch the bottom of the vessel and if not why? 3. 4. How much water is to be placed in the vessel? How do we determine it's ex act quantity?Explanation / Answer
2) a) mass of wax burned = 12.15-10.4 = 1.75 g
b) DT = 72.5-27.7 = 44.8
c) heatabsorbed by the water(q) = m*C*DT
= 201*4.18*44.8
= 37640 joule
= 37.64 kj
d) eneergy per gram of wax = 37.64/1.75 = 21.5 kj/g
