Question

The following data were collected for a system in equilibrium at different temperatures. Complete the table by calculating G for each value Temperature K, AG (kJ/mol) eq 10 20 30 40 50 60 70 5.85×10-61 1.30x10-511 2.75x 10-51 5.55x10-511 1.07 x 10-4C 1.99 x 10-4 40 3.55x 10-4 49 Use the graphic method described in your lab manual and textbook to determine the following. (Enter your answers with three significant figures.) What is the value of AH for this system? kJ/mol What is the value of for this system? J/mol-K

Explanation / Answer

since deltaG= -RT lnKeq, R= gas constant= 8.314 J/mole.K and T is temperatrue in K ( K= deg.C+273) and Keq is equilibrium constant.

so the data points on calculations of deltaG are shown in the table below.

but deltaG= deltaH-T*deltaS

so a plot of deltaG vs T gives straight line whose slope is -deltaS and intercept is deltaH.

from the equation of best fit, deltaS= 95.07 J/K ( slope ) and deltaH= intercept = 55258 J/mole.=55.258 Kj/mole
