Question

27. The temperature of a 809 milliliter sample of gas increases from 71 Celsius to 255 Celsius. What is the final volume of the sample of gas, in milliliters, if the pressure and moles in the container is kept constant? Please report the answer choice in 5 significant figures and include the correct unit symbol.

35. The metal used in the manufacture of tableware, mirrors, jewelry, and dental alloys. If the design for a piece of jewelry requires 0.364 mole of tin, how many grams of tin are needed?

Explanation / Answer

gas law can be written as PV= nRT, at constant pressure and for a given mass of gas, P, the pressrue and n, no of moles are constant. gas law now becomes V/T= constant. for two different conditions

V1/T1= V2/T2,

V1= volume before heating=809, , T1= temperatue of gas before heating =71+273= 344K

V2= volume after heating, T2= temperature of gas after heating= 255+273= 528K

V2= V1*T2/T1= 809* 528/344 =1241.7 ml

2. atomic weight of tin= 118.71 g/mole, moles of tin= 0.364

moles= mass/atomic weight

mass of tin= moles of tin* atomic weight =0.364*118.71 gm =43.21 gm
