Question

Explain why triacylalycerols are a more efficient form of energy storage compared to glycogen. Explain why fatty acids yield more ATP per carbon than glucose. Explain why lipids from the foods you eat form large droplets, but carbohydrates do not. Describe the structure and function of bile salts. What are lipases? Describe their role in processing dietary lipids prior to transport through the bloodstream. Based on what you know about proteins, why can't lipases interact well with lipids in large lipid droplets? Why must fatty acids first be released from triacylglycerols in foods even though they are then used to form triacylglycerols in the cells that line your small intestine? Explain why triacylglycerols and other lipids cannot be transported freely through the bloodstream Describe the structure of a lipoprotein. Explain why it makes sense that lipoproteins are surrounded by a single layer of phospholipids, but cellular membranes are lipid bilayers.

Explanation / Answer

a)because in tracylglycerol oxygen molecules are very less in comprision to glycogen so tracylglycerol are energy efficient.

b)fatty acid contain less energy as compared to glucose hence yeild more ATP as compared to glucose

c)because lipids are non polar and therefore insoluble in water so form droplets in the other hand carbohydrates are polar
