Question

Please help me do these problems and explain the equation Acc=IN-OUT+Gen-Diss. I dont know when should I use this equation. And what is conserved in this system. Thank you!

Process 2 CSTR Consider the following CSTR process: Stream 2:B Mass flow 150 kg/h Molecular mass = 20 Volumetric flow = 10 m3/h Stream 1: A Mass flow 100 kg/h Molecular mass = 16 CSTR Volumetric flow = 5 m3/h A and B undergo the following slow reaction: The reaction is first order with respect to A and has a reaction rate (ra) of 1.2 h1 and the reactor has a total volume of 20 m3. 1. What is the total volumetric flowrate leaving the CSTR assuming constant volume of the CSTR? 2. What is the molar concentration of A in stream 1 and B in stream 2? 3. Write down a mole balance for component A over the CSTR? 4. What is concentration of A in the outlet stream?

Explanation / Answer

1)total volumetric flowrate is 5+10=15 m3/h

2)molar concenration of a in stream 1 is 100/16=6.25 mol/h and molar conc of b in stream 2 is 150/20=7.5 mol/h

3) V/v =Ca0*Xa/-ra

20/15=6.25(Xa)/1.2

Xa=.25

Ca=Ca0(1-Xa)

6.25*0.75

Ca=1.25 mol/hr
