need help with question 1-3?
1. A pure porphyrin sample was analyzed and found to consist of 78 67% C, 4.95% H, 7 65% 0, and 73% Determine the empirical formula of the porphyrin al if the actual molecular mass of the porphyrin is 732.808g/mol, what is the molecular formula of this porphhyrin? b) 2. Calculate the solubility of CrH)ds) (Ksp·10 K 10"") in water. 3. One of the most common complexometric gravimetric procedures involves the use of a bidentate chelating agent such as dimethy'g/yoxime to determine Ni". Draw the structure of the Ni"complex of this ligand and name itExplanation / Answer
Ans 1 :
a) Let the mass of porphyrin sample be 100 g
So the amount of C=78.67 g
Number of moles = 78.67 / 12.01 = 6.55 moles
H= 4.95 g
Moles = 4.95/1.008 = 4.91 moles
N= 7.65
Moles = 0.55
O= 8.73 g
Moles = 0.55 moles
dividing by a common factor , to get the ratio as : 11:9:1:1
So the empirical formula becomes : C12H9NO
b) Empirical mass = (12.01 x 12) + (1.008 x 9) + 14 + 16
= 183.192 g/mol
Dividing molecular mass by empirical mass we get :
= 732.808 / 183.192
= 4
Multiplying the empirical formula by 4 to get the molecular formula as :
= C48H36N4O4
