produc? Explan. (a total of 4 pts) Consider the attached two IR spectra, which are marked as A and B. One of them belongs to cyclohexanol, the other belongs to cyclohexene. (i) (1 pt) Which spectrum belongs to cyclohexanol and which to cyclohexene? (ii) d. (3 pts; 6 x 0.5 pt for each correct signal assignment) Print the next page with the spectra. Some signals are marked with a number, 1-6. Next to each signal with a number, write the bond which provides that signal. The atom hybridization must be indicated in your answers for example: (sp)C-H bond, (sp)C-H bond, etc. (My advice: read pages 537-552 in the Chem 341 textbook before writing your answers to question 3d.) Report 8 is due at the beginning of Exp. 9. Do not forget to IR spectra with your assignment of the marked signals. all pages of your report, including the 2

Explanation / Answer

d. a) Analysis of the IR spectrum

(i) The spectrum with a broad peak between 3200-3400 cm-1 belongs to Cyclohexanol. The other spectrum is for Cyclohexene

(ii) Cyclohexanol peaks,

3200-3400 cm-1 broad signal for -OH group of ccyclohexanol

2850-2950 cm-1 for sp3 hybridized C-H streching

No peak in 1500-1800 cm-1 region

C-C and C-H single bond stretchings below 1400 cm-1

Cyclohexene peaks,

No peak above 3200 cm-1

3000-3100 cm-1 peaks for sp2 =C-H stretchings

1620-1680 cm-1 peaks for sp2 C=C stretchings

C-C and C-H single bond stretchings below 1400 cm-1
