Question

Questor, 4 of 7 Hwar what are the speafic enthalpy and specific volume of steam at 300 0C and 20.0 ba? Map kJ/ kg m' kg Is this steam superheated or saturated? O saturated O superheated If this steam is superheated, what is its degrees of superhear? If the steam is saturated, respond with "0 e C Estrmate the temperature, specific anthalpy and specific volume of saturated stoam at 7 25 bar. Number m'/kg H 11.5 m2/min of steam at 300.0'C and 20.0 bar enters a turbine and leaves as saturated steem at 7.26 bar, what is tha volumetric flow rate of steam leaving the turbine?

Explanation / Answer

from steam tables, at 20 bar (20*100= 2000Kpa), the saturation temperature is 212.37deg.c, But the given temperatrue is 300 deg.c, So the steam is super heated. from super heated steam table

enthalpy =3024 Kj/kg and specific volume=0.1255 m3/kg

degree of super hear= 300-212.37 =87.63 deg.c

2. At 7.25 bar= 725 Kpa, the saturation temperarure from extrapolation is 166.4 deg.c. Enthalpy of steam = 2061 Kj/kg and specific volume of saturated steam = 0.264 m3/kg

3, Mass flow rate of entering steam= Volumetric flow rate/ specific volume= 11.5 m3/min/0.1255 m3/kg =91.63 kg/min

mass flow rate does not change during passage through turbine.

hence mass flow rate at the exit of turbine= 91.63kg/min

specific volume of saturated steam at the exit = 0.264m3/kg

volumetric flow rate= 91.63 kg/min*0.264 m3/kg =24.19 m3/min

work out put= mass flow rate*( inlet enthalpy- exit enthalpy)= 91.63 kg/min*(3024-2061) Kj/kg =88240 Kj/min

=88240/60 Kj/sec = 1471 KJ/sec= 1471 KW
