@ This is a Numeric Entry question/ It is worth 3 points/You have 10 of 10 attempts remaining / There is no attempt penalty 25 Question (3 points) a See page 236 v 1st attempt l See Periodic Table See Hint Phthalates used as plasticizers in rubber and plastic products are believed to act as hormone mimics in humans. The value of dimet for alate (C10H1004) is 4685 kJ/mol. Assume 0.955 g of dimethylphthalate is combusted in a calorimeter whose heat capacity (Ccaloretr)is 7.85 kJ/°C at 20.5°C. What is the final temperature of the calorimeter?

Explanation / Answer

From the formula C10H10O4, we can calculate molar mass of it =120+10+64=194 g/mol

And hence the moles of the phthalate is 0.955/194=0.0049

and hence the heat given out after combustion=4685*0.0049=22.06 kJ

And we know the formula Q=C(Tf-Ti)

22.06=7.85*(Tf-20.5)

this gives Tf=(22.06/7.85)+20.5=23.31 C

Please give a thumbs up it matters a lot and leave a comment in case of doubts.
