question 1 please
(1) One way to purify saltwater is to allow it to vaporize from the salt solution and condense an a cool plastic receptor surface, where it can be collected for consumption (the principle being that salt is not carried with the water vapour). Even in a water-air mixture, the latent heat of vaporization is stll needed to convert liquid water to vapour, L.e, energy is required for the air and saltwater to reach thermal equilibrium. At 20*C, how much heat energy (in ku) is required to purify 300 litres of saltwater?Explanation / Answer
The heatof vaporization of water at 20°C is 44 kJ mol or we can say 2.45kJ/gram.
Density of water to be=1 g/cm3
Hence in 300 litres of saltwater mass of water =300*1000*1=300,000 g
hence the energy required would be = 300000*2.45=735,000 kJ.
Please do give it a thumbs up as it matters a lot.Thank You.
