Question

Determine the enthphy change per mole of BaSO4 for the reaction above given the following data from a calorimetry experiment A) +306 kJ B) -306 kJ C) +459 kJ D) -459 kJ E) +229 kJ Question 2 (8 points) A solution of Na2SO4 and a solution of Ba(NO32 were mixed in a coffee-cup calorimeter resulting in a temperature increase from 30 °C to 42 C and the formation of a white solid which was BaSO4(molar mass 233.4 g/mol). The product was collected by vacuum filtration, dried, and weighed. The mass of the white solid (BaSO4) was 350. grams. The total mass of the solution was 6.00 kg. The specific heat capacity of the solution was 6.37 J/oC g. For this experiment assume no heat was lost to the surroundings or to the calorimeter. Note: Recall sHrnrxn at constant pressure. Na SO4Ba(NO3)h BaSO42NaNO3 alpy change per mole of BaSO4 for the reaction above given the following data from a calorimetry e

Explanation / Answer

The answer would be +306kJ

and the solution is

moles of BaSO4 obtained in the reaction=350/233.4=1.5

Net Change in Enthalpy = m*C*(Tf-Ti)

here m=6kg=6000g and C=6.37 and Tf=42 Ti=30

Putting values we get Enthalpy=459 kJ

per mole of BaSO4 =459/1.5=306kJ/mol

Please give a thumbs up :)
