REPORT FOR EXPERIMENT 10 (continued) nu B. Qualitative Examination of Residue EXPERIMENT 1. Record what you observed when silver nitrate was add Double Disp (a) Potassium chloride solution (b) Potassium chlorate solution MATERIALS Solid: sodiu ammonium 0.1 M cop hydrochlo (c) Residue solution 2. (a) What evidence did you observe that would lead you to believe that the residue potassiun potassium chloride? sodium H SO (b) What would happen if you added silver nitrate to a solution of sodium chlor Explain your answer. DISC Dou (e) Did the evidence obtained in the silver nitrate tests of the three solutions prove con- clusively that the residue actually was potassium chloride? Explain? QUESTIONS AND PROBLEMSExplanation / Answer
(a)
when you mix silver nitrate with potassium chloride it will form a white preciptate of silver chloride as only silver chloride is insoluble in water unlike other metal chlorides
(b)
when you mix silver nitrate with potassium chlorate it will remain in solution form as silver chlorate is soluble in water.
(c)
this part you have to answer based on your observation while doing experiment
if you get a white preciptate when you mix silver nitrate to the residual solution then the residual solution is made of potassium chloride
if not residual solution is made of potassium chlorate
