Question
If the crucible cover falls and breaks during the heating, do you have to start the experiment over again? Why or why not? Defend your answer. What is the purpose of adding water during the experimental procedure? Show by chemical equations what occurs when water is added. Why will the crucible and its contents gain mass when heated? Chemically, what has happened? A student did a similar experiment with Ag and O to produce silver oxide. Here is the data from the experiment. a. Mass of crucible and cover: 29.307 g b. Mass of crucible, cover, and silver: 30.958 g c. Mass of crucible, cover, and silver oxide: 31.080 g d. Use these data to determine the empirical formula for silver oxide.Explanation / Answer
4. Crucibal are of different types some are glass based which are called G4 crucibal and some are china dish based crucibal , anyway if the crucibal cover falls and break during the experiment so according to the experimental guidliness we can not start are experiment by taking another cruibal cover because the weight of the cruicibal varies with their sizes so the amount of the sample we have take is also disturbed . May be some of the sample will stick on the wall of the cover.
But we can do repeat experiment from the starting if possible so we can measure the new data.
5. to cool down the agressive reaction and balanced the reaction.
6.on heating cruibal gained weight because of impurities are dissoved during heating and mass of the sample also increased.
7.2Ag+1/2O2------> Ag2O
Mass of the silver = 30.958 g- 29.307g
= 1.651g
Mass of the silver oxide = 31.080g- 29.307g
1.773 g
Ag- 107 g
O- 16 g
n= 2
AgO
