Question
List possible manipulation errors that might contribute to the following errors in results: (1) obtaining a significantly larger amount of NaCl than was present in the original sample (2) obtaining a significantly smaller amount of SiO_2 than was present in the original sample. Use the information in the table (depicted in the image) to answer the following questions: (1) Could you separate the components of a mixture of Mg(OH)_2 and Zn(OH)_2 by using 3M HCl? (2) Briefly describe how you could separate the components of a mixture of benzoic acid and Na_2SO_4 and recover the two separated substances. (3) Could you separate the components of a mixture of benzoic acid, Mg(OH)_2 and Na_2SO_4 by using only cold water and 3M HCl? Briefly explain your answer.Explanation / Answer
List possible manipulation errors that might contribute to the following errors inresults:a)Obtaining a significantly larger amount of NaCl than was present in the originalsample;
1. it might be that something was spilled from the original mixture.
2. it could be that the salt wasn't completely dry and the weight is higher than it should because of some left over water.

b) Obtaining a significantly smaller amount of SiO2 than was present in the original sample.
Adding the HCl too quickly can result in the sudden release of gas, and may cause losses of SiO2. Also, loss during filtration due to inadequate rinses of glassware

.2.Briefly describe how you could separate the components of a mixture of benzoicacid and Na2SO4 and recover the two separated substances.
I can separate them using could water or 3M HCl which will dissolve theNa2SO4 but not the benzoic acid.

3.Could you separate the components of a mixture of benzoic acid, Mg(OH)2 andNa2SO4 by using only cold water and 3M HCl? Briefly, explain.
I can separate this mixture by treating with cold water first (whichdissolves the Na2SO4), then treating the residue with 3 M HCl which willdissolve the Mg(OH)2 but not the benzoic acid.
