Question

I have a homework on formaldehyde.

It is produced on a large scale from methanol, most commonly by the “Formox” process which is an oxidation reaction of MeOH, however it can also be produced directly by dehydrogenation over a silver based catalyst:

            CH3OH(g) CH2O(g) + H2(g)       500 – 1000 K steps of 20 K

So what I need is the full thermodynamic data for this reaction (tables and graphs) over the temperature interval indicated.

If you have the website of the data, please write the link for me.

Explanation / Answer

The design of a formaldehyde producing plant comes after literature review has been conducted. The design of

the plant follows the Onion Model where reactor design

is considered carefully before moving on subsequently to separation systems and heatintegration study. A simulation is carried out by using HYSYS software to compare themanual material balance calculations made and the feasibility of such operations. Thedesign of a heat exchanger network (HEN) for maximum heat recovery of the plant iscarried out as well after a detailed heat integration study. A Process Flow Diagram (PFD)is produced which dictate

s the entire plants chemical processes for the production of ethylene
