Question

Determine the E_cell^0 values for the spontaneous redox reaction that occur. Fill in Table 1 with the spontaneous reactions. Do you notice any relationship with spontaneity and E^0 value? Which of the reactions is electrochemically most active? Is there any reaction which might produce color evidence that a reaction is occurring? Concentration Cell When solutions of different concentrations of the same element are selected as two half cells, transfer of copper ions from one solution at a specific concentration will transfer to another. Select the copper electrodes for both half cell reaction. Under the Show button, select Cell Properties window must be opened in the program in order to change the concentration of solutions. According to the Table 2, below, the concentrations must be adjusted for this investigation. First select the LHS (left hand side) and adjust the concentrations, followed by the (RHS) right hand side and adjust the concentration.

Explanation / Answer

1. As the E0 value for reaction is positive the reaction is spontaneous.

2. Since the E0 value for the reaction between Zn and Ag is 1.45 which is higher value for any given reaction, the reaction between Zn and Ag is electrochemically more active.

And also reaction between Zn and Cu is more active. The reaction between Fe and Ag is more active.

3. The reaction between Zn and Cu produce for color evidence, because in the reaction Cu is oxidized to Cu2+ which solution blue in color.
