I'm confused. What is the point of catabolism where we break up molecules if we're going to build them back up anyways in Anabolism? Why doesn't the body leave the food in the state it is then? You must have heard the phrase "For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction". Same is the case with catabolism and anabolism in the body. We cannot grow or form from nothing but need something to grow and build upon. Body doesn't leave the food in the state it is in because it cannot derive the necessary nutrition from that state. This is where catabolism comes in play in the body. Catabolism enables the body to breakdown food into smaller nutrients and then gain energy from them through oxidation. Since energy is spent in catabolism and body needs to rebuild also therefore anabolism comes in play. Once body gets energy in the form of ATP and has spent it then it needs to rebuild and grow with the help of anabolism.
