Question
Write a genetics problem that involves crossing two individuals. You can give as much information about the parents and/or offspring as you wish (e.g. the genotypes/phenotypes of the parents, the genotypes/phenotypes of the offspring), but you must ask for a specific piece of information that requires some thought to figure out (e.g. the phenotype ratio of the offspring from a cross of two parents with known genotypes, the phenotype of the mother if the genotypic ratio of the offspring and the paternal genotype are known, etc.). You may choose to provide information on one or two genes (a mono- or dihybrid cross), and have a dominant-recessive, co-dominant, or incomplete dominance relationship between the alleles. Be creative, make the problem tough, but make sure that it is possible to solve with the information you provide. Do not provide the answer to this problem or any hints at how to solve it.
Explanation / Answer
A cross between dominant male (TT) and recessive female (tt) produces offspring in 1:1 ratio with genotype (Tt).
When a heterozygous (Tt) individual crossed with dominant (TT) or recessive (tt) the resultant individuals would be in monohybrid cross ratio 3:1 (1 completely dominant , 2 heterozygous and 1 completely recessive). The codominance is observed in the alleles of blood groups. The incomplete dominance in the alleles that encode for flower color.
Pink (PP) dominant when crossed with red(Pp) recessive, it results in production of offspring in1:2:1 ratio. White with (pp) genotype is produced. 1 Pink, 2 red and 1 white colored flower plants showing the incomplete dominance of alleles encoding the flower color.
When an individual with twi traits (AaBb) crossed with individual with two traits (aaBb) the resulting offspring are produced in dihybrid cross ratio of 9:3:3:1. The best example is Pea plants producing green and round seeds (dominant) crossed with yellow and wrinkled seeds (recessive) produce offspring Green round -9, Green wrinked -3, yellow round - 3 and yellow wrinkled -1.
